TIME for Kids has announced the winners of this year's poetry contest. The grand-prize winning poem, by 8-year-old Amy Christiansen, and the poems of 8 finalists, are all on TFK's website. Several of the poems appear in the April 21 issue of TIME for Kids magazine.
I had a great time judging the poems for this contest. There were so many wonderful poems submitted that it was impossible to pick just one winner and four finalists. Even after selecting those five winners and four more "honorable mentions," I still was sad to have to leave out so many terrific poems. Nevertheless, with nearly 2,000 entries, I had to reject many poems that I really liked.
My thanks go out to all of the kids who took the time to write a poem for this year's TIME for Kids poetry contest. In my eyes, you are all winners for having made the effort to write a poem and enter the contest.

GRAND PRIZE WINNER
The Bumblebee
By Emily Christiansen, 8, from Bloomington, Minnesota
The afternoon was bright and sunny,
The perfect day to make some honey.
Buzz, buzz goes the bee,
Runs into a golf ball tee!
All he wanted was some pollen,
But SMACKED that tee and now has fallen.
I think he thought it was a flower,
Blooming from an April shower.
All his friends back at the hive
Were waiting for him to arrive.
He flew back home a little woozy,
I think he'll take a little snoozie!
